Installation and Registration Instructions

Remember to save the packaging with the CD, as it contains the Product ID and some general installation and operating instructions.

INSTALLATION
 

A few important notes that may help you successfully install the ChartKit® Companion CD:

  • Close all running programs before beginning the Installation and Registration process.
  • On most operating systems (Windows 7 and 8, especially), you must disable your virus protection program during the CD installation.
  • On some operating systems, you have to change the compatibility mode to Run This Program As An Administrator.
  • In a restricted corporate or protected network environment, you must Run This Program As An Administrator.

  • Usually, once you insert the CD, the Maptech® set-up file will automatically run and all you will need to do is follow the prompts.

In general, the steps to installing and registering the ChartKit® Companion CD are

  • Insert the Companion CD into your PC.
  • Choose "Install ChartKit®/Chartbook Companion CD."
  • Follow the prompts and instructions.
  • When prompted for a Product ID number, enter the number from the ChartKit® Companion CD packaging/envelope.

For Vista - WIN7 - WIN8 :

Vista, WIN7 and WIN8 computers will usually open an Auto Play window. Choose "Open Folder to View Files" or "View the Files in Windows Explorer."

For Windows XP :

Windows XP computers will generally "Auto-Run" the Maptech® setup file. Just follow the on-screen prompts.

If the steps above did not work:

  • Click Start
  • Click My Computer.
  • My Computer shows you the contents of your CD-ROM drive and hard disk.
  • Right-click on the Maptech® CD name and/or icon.
  • Choose "Explore" or "Open."
  • A list of files on that CD will appear. One (or more) will appear as Setup - look for the Application File that is Setup(or Setup.exe.).

Follow the steps below for your operating system--

For Vista - WIN7 - WIN8

  • Once you've located the Setup application file, right-click on the Setup application file and select Properties.
  • Click the Compatibility tab and for Compatibility Mode check the option, Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 2) or (Service Pack 3) if available.
  • On that same page, click on the Privilege Level that reads Run this program as an Administrator and press OK.
  • Now, right-click on that same Setup application, and choose Run this program as an Administrator. The install process should proceed as expected.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to install and register the software and charts.
  • At the conclusion of the Registration process, you may be prompted to run the application.

Do NOT elect to start the application - yet.

  • On the Windows desktop, there will now appear an icon for the Maptech® Offshore Navigator Lite application that has just been installed.
  • Right-click on this icon and choose Properties.
  • Click the Compatibility tab and for Privilege Level check the option that reads Run this program as an administrator and press OK.
  • Double-click on the icon for the Maptech® Offshore Navigator Lite application. The application should start and operate normally.

For Windows XP:

  • Once you've located the Setup application file, double-click on the Setup or Setup.exe file.
  • When the red Maptech® box appears, click the Install Companion CD button.
  • Follow the prompts to continue registering your charts.
  • Our ChartKit® Companion CD is compatible with most personal computers. We've tried to cover all scenarios. If these instructions don't help, please call us at 508-990-9020 and we'll help you find a solution.
 

REGISTRATION

A welcome screen will appear when it is time to register your product.

If your computer is connected to the internet, choose to register "On this Computer, using Automated Internet Registration." Follow the prompts.

If your computer is not connected to the internet, you will need to call us at 508-990-9020 to register the ChartKit® Companion CD.

If your computer is not connected to the internet, and it is after business hours, please send an e-mail to [email protected] with the Product ID (found on the sleeve that the CD came in), your computer's unique installation ID (displayed on the Maptech® pop-up Registration menu), and a telephone number where you can be reached during business hours. We will call or e-mail you an Activation Code.

CHART INSTALLATION

When the registration has completed, we suggest copying the charts from the ChartKit® Companion CD to your hard drive.

Copying charts to your hard drive provides faster display capability. It also saves you the need of keeping CDs on hand, and the trouble of switching them in and out of your CD drive. If there are charts you plan to use frequently, you'll especially want to copy them to your hard drive.

The charts on the ChartKit® Companion CD are automatically installed to your hard drive into C:ChartKitBSBChart, unless you choose otherwise.

If you opt to manually install the ChartKit® Companion CD

  • With the CD still in the CD-ROM drive, open Offshore Navigator Lite by clicking on the application's shortcut icon on the desktop.
  • From the Offshore Navigator Lite menu, choose the Charts menu, the select Chart List.
  • Select the Copy Charts to Hard Drive tab.
  • If the charts on the CD do not appear in the "Charts on CD" list on the left, press the Change CD/Refresh Chart List button and the charts will be added to the list.
  • To copy everything contained on a ChartKit® Companion CD: Press the Copy All button in the center of this window. (Note: Windows 7 and 8 systems review the security files of each chart file; expect a delay during this check.)
  • To copy individual charts, click on the chart titles to highlight the ones you want to copy to your hard drive.
  • When you have made your selections, press the Copy button in the center of the window.

The charts will now be copied to the hard drive you have specified.

When the chart installation is complete you may remove the ChartKit® Companion CD from your drive.
